It’s been non stop this week with meetings and one of the standouts was the big homies from The Thiiird who came by for a studio visit. It’s always a great opportunity to learn and grow when you surround yourself with people much smarter, successful, experienced and wiser then yourself. And owner Steve Suk and the crew are no exception. Discussing the old traditions and legacy of Horiyoshi III, to current market trends in our tattoo world, to fashion, fine art and business and how they all are integrated and always changing is an ongoing conversation.
With a saturated market and mainstream digital and social media, the beauty of the dark roots that is the essence of tattoo culture has become demystified and forgotten in most parts. But legendary pioneers like Horiyoshi III remain, and as long as artists and creative minds who engage in taking things to the next level, true quality of tradition will never die – regardless of market trends and phases. The level of quality will continue to rise, and the respect and integrity of the tattoo world will carry on through the decades. Just like some of Steve’s collection – most of his body suit was done by Horiyoshi III while my generation was a fetus! Respect the craft….
